Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon (Pretty Soldier Sailormoon) is a Japanese cartoon based on the Manga (Japanese comic book) by Naoko Takeuchi about a klutzy, and crybaby teenager named Tsukino Usagi.

One day, Usagi met a talking cat named Luna. Luna gave Usagi a brooch and told her to shout "Moon Prism Power." Usagi then was transformed into the pretty suited soldier Sailor Moon who will punish villains in the name of the moon (I didn't make that up, it's her speech). Soon Sailor Moon is joined by Sailor Mercury or Mizuno Ami, Sailor Mars or Hino Rei, Sailor Jupiter or Kino Makoto, and Sailor Venus or Aino Minako, this group is called the inner senshi. Artemis, who is Minako's cat, also joins Luna in teaching the senshi. Tuxedo Kamen or Chiba Mamoru always appears to assist the senshi when they are in trouble.

The outer senshi; Sailor Pluto or Meiou Setsuna, Sailor Neptune or Kaiou Michiru, Sailor Uranus or Tenou Haruka, Sailor Saturn or Tomoe Hotaru soon arive, as well as Sailor Chibi Moon or Tsukino Chibi-Usa (short for Tsukino Usagi), Sailor Chibichibi Moon or Chibichibi, and the Sailor Starlights or Kou Seiya, Kou Yaten, and Kou Taiki.

These 14 senshi form the group of fighters against evil known as the Sailor Senshi (plus Tuxedo Kamen).

Each senshi uses certain kinds of attacks. Mercury and Neptune use water based attacks, Mars uses fire, Jupiter uses wood and lightning, Venus uses love and beauty, Pluto uses time, Uranus uses the heavens, Saturn uses death, the Starlights (Fighter, Maker, and Healer) each use different powers of stars, and Moon, Chibimoon, and Chibichibimoon use purity.

All of the inner and outer senshi had past lives in the silver millennium. The inner senshi protected the moon princess, Princess Serenity(or Selenity), they were her court. Uranus and Neptune protected the galaxy, and Pluto guarded the gate of time. Tuxedo Kamen/Mamoru was the Prince Endymion of Earth, and he and Princess Serenity were in love. Queen Beryl, from the Dark Kingdom (bad guys), attacked the Moon Kingdom with all her strength, partially for her jealosy of Princess Serenity and Endymion's favor of her. Queen Serenity, the queen of the Moon and mother of Princess Serenity, used the imperium silver crystal to trap the Dark Kingdom and send it to the future, along with the senshi, the prince, and her daughter, who would be reborn with no memories of their prior lives. Queen Serenity then used the last of her strength to send the royal cats, Luna and Artemis, to the future so that when the Dark Kingdom awoke, they could revive the memories of the senshi to battle whatever evil arose until the time of eternal peace finally came.
